We can all respond to the beauty of a drift of golden daffodils, few sights at this time of the year lift the heart as much. However, anyone involved in developing Alzheimer's treatments may look upon this sight with more scientific eyes!

A compound called galantamine, has for some time now been involved in early stage Alzheimer's treatment. It is hoped that it can slow down the progress of the disease. Daffodils grown on the slopes of the Black Mountains in Wales have been found to have very high levels of this compound. Harvesting of this crop begins today.
